Here is new Jaguar XKR-S :
Jaguar unveiled a convertible version of the 2012 XKR-S coupe at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Jaguar calls it the most powerful and fastest open-top GT Jaguar ever built! It made a similar statement about the coupe, so we have no reason to doubt its claim. The XKR-S model lineup sits at the top of the XK range, which also consists of the XK and XKR, all of which are available in coupe or convertible form. Our time with the 2012 XKR-S Coupe started a love affair cut short by a check-engine light; we hope to unite with the topless version of our old fling (don?t let your thoughts stray) in the near future.
Like the 2012 coupe, the 2012 XKR-S promises to embody all the characteristics one would expect from Jaguar such as luxury and relaxed comfort while adding some new attributes like rewarding handling and, most importantly, superior performance. The XKR-S convertible uses the company?s third-generation 5.0-liter supercharged AJ V-8, tuned to 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. This is an eight-percent horsepower increase and nine-percent torque increase compared to the Jaguar XKR and is good for a zero-to-60-mph time of just 4.2 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. The power increase is achieved by way of a few tweaks including an active exhaust system, which not only adds more power but also adds that unique deep growl that we gushed over in the coupe.
A six-speed automatic is the only transmission offered, and an electronically controlled rear differential is also part of the package. There are also many suspension upgrades, including a stronger aluminum steering knuckle and a 28 percent increase in the spring rate. In front is an Active Differential, and out back is an stiffer damper mounts. These revisions push the XK?s abilities even further, helping create a bond between the driver and the car.
The exterior has received some updates including a new front bumper design with a wider, lower air intake and a carbon-fiber splitter. New sills smooth airflow while enhancing the 0.4-inch drop in ride height. The unique rear wing with the carbon fiber insert and apron ensure balanced aerodynamics for both the front and the rear. Another plus is the convertible roof opens and stows in just 18 seconds and can be activated at speeds of up to 15 mph. The 20-inch lightweight, forged alloy wheels provide flawless fitment for the convertible, while subtly complementing the exposed brake calipers. Lastly, the brakes have been upsized to 15-inch rotors up front and 14 inches at the rear.
Both of the XKR-S models feature unique ?carbon-leather? performance seats with 16-way adjustability, integrated headrests, cutouts for racing harnesses, and increased side bolstering. Dark-finished aluminum trim is standard, but piano black is optional. The interior also includes a multi-function leather steering wheel with a gloss-black center console.
Only 25 units of the new 2012 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible will be brought over to the U.S., each priced at $138,000, or approximately a $6,000 premium over the coupe. Unfortunately, Jaguar reportedly sold all 25 (along with all 100 units of the coupe) before the convertible was even announced.
